Research Reflection 3
For the project I have decided to interview my uncle. He is a veteran and fought in the Vietnam War. I have decided to interview him because after he got home from war he was greatly effected by it. I don’t know if my uncle was officially diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder but he does know about the disorder and the effects of war. I think that interviewing him will really help me with my project and presentation. I have come up with some questions to ask him and continuing my research will also help. I want to know more about the specific causes and effects. Also, I want to learn the reasoning behind veterans choosing alcohol, drugs, and suicide. I hope that my uncle will be able to answer all of the questions I have for him. My topic is PTSD and substance abuse and suicide. So, I have decided on these three research questions: What specific events can cause a soldier to have PTSD, what can soldiers or loved ones of soldiers do to help treat PTSD substance abuse/suicide or prevent it, and why do so many soldiers suffering from PTSD turn to alcohol or drugs and suicide. I came to these questions because I do have a general idea of what the answers are but I want to know the specific answers. I think that finding the answers to these questions will really help me with the project and the presentation we will be doing. I am looking forward to finding out the answers to my interview questions and the research questions I have decided on.
